Q: How can I be assured you will continue to work our search even after we have paid all of our fees?

Q: Do you charge $2.00 plus per piece of mail like other firms?

So for optimal exposure, THC makes the investment to procure data through other sources which provide us additional contact information, such as, professional and personal emails, and home and cell phone numbers. By increasing our communication options, we increase our chances of making contact, which is our primary goal.



Q: Do you conduct background and credential checks on the candidates?


Answer:
THC conducts a thorough credential check to verify state licensure and board certification. We also run a criminal background check on all candidates.

Q: Do you meet the candidate prior to their site visit?


Answer:
Because our candidates are nation-wide, as a rule, we do not meet them prior to the site visit. We believe we can make better use of our time in the office sourcing additional candidates for your opportunity.

Q: Does your firm create cover letters on candidates?


Answer:
We actually go beyond the traditional cover letter and create extensive 8-10 page mini-biographies on all candidates. We submit these to hirers prior to the candidate’s visit, so that the initial meeting feels more like a second interview.

Q: We have had some success with contingent firms, why should we consider going with a retained firm?


Answer:
Certainly, the no-upfront-costs associated with the contingent approach are attractive. Yet, because of their limited service, and their process of sifting through mountains of CV’s often unrelated to your opportunity, land on your desk. Their sifting process then becomes your sifting process. As long as you are comfortable with visiting with candidates that have very little information about your opportunity and you know very little about the candidate and you are willing to pay someone 25k for that exchange, then we don’t’ try and compete for that business. Say What? A money back guarantee from a recruiting company?

      Say goodbye to 2014 - 7 Top Challenges for Physicians in 2015

      With 2014 soon to be a memory, The Hire Connection wants to look ahead to the challenges that Physicians will face in 2015.  With baby boomers reaching retirement in ever greater numbers, and with Obamacare fully kicking in with an enrollment deadline of 15 February, 2015, physicians are facing an even more uncertain landscape this year.  We found a great resource for information on some top challenges for physicians in 2015 from the Modern Medicine Network.  Here is a recap:

      Challenge 1:  ICD-10 implementation

      This new medical coding system will require a significant amount of money to implement and train physicians.  The American Medical Association estimates that small practices could spend between $56k and $226k to implement this coding system.

      Challenge 2:  HIPAA

      Physicians will find it hard to stay compliant in a fast changing digital environment.  Here is a chart with some HIPAA security components:

      Challenge 3:  Meaningful Use 2 (MU2)

      This continuing challenge will most likely not get easier in 2015.  For eligible professionals, in 2015 they will see a 1% decrease in Medicare reimbursements for each year they do not meet meaningful use requirements.

      Challenge 4:  Getting paid for their work

      Under Obamacare, reimbursement models are changing from the fee-for-service model to value-based payment.  To avoid claim denials, physicians need to learn every detail to submit a "clean claim".  In some instances, physicians are not accepting insurance at all to avoid hassles generated by heathcare reform.

      Challenge 5:  Maintenance of certification

      The controversy surrounding the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program is extensive, and it’s a challenge that will certainly follow physicians into 2015.  For family physicians, the application fee alone can range from $1,300 to $1,500.

      The ABIM and other MOC proponents say that the program is necessary to ensure that physicians maintain their medical knowledge. However, some primary care physicians argue that the test material often is not applicable to typical occurrences within their specialty.

      Challenge 6:  Collecting co-pays and deductibles

      Getting co-pays and deductibles has remained a challenge, but the ACA landscape may add to this burden in 2015.  Many ACA plans have higher deductibles and co-pays than existing commercial plans. As a result, those plans could increase the provider collection burden as more patients purchase and use them.

      Challenge 7:  Administrative burdens

      The percentage of physicians who spend more than one day per week on administrative duties increased a whopping 12% in 2014.  In 2013, this number was 58%...in 2014 it was 70%.  This most likely is affecting a physicians' on-the-job happiness.  Prior authorizations are a major, and growing, source of physicians paperwork burden. More and more payers are requiring prior authorizations for more drugs and procedures.

      Meet Kira Kordula - Director of Recruiting and a Rock Star THC team member!

      We love featuring our superstar team members at The Hire Connection. We put some questions to Kira Kordula, Director of Recruiting and here are her answers!

      1) What do you like most about the medical recruiting business?

      I like being able to work with different specialist. I also enjoy talking and this job allows for me to talk all day long and get paid for it.



      2) Where did you grow up?

      I was born in Lake Tahoe, CA. My father was in the Navy which required our family to relocate every 2- 4 years.



      3) Do you have a family? (who are your spouse/kids if so)

      I have been married for 15 years. My husband is a local Camden County Sheriff. I have a 14 year old daughter and a nine year old son.

      4) What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

      I love reading. If I am not attending the kid’s activities then I have a book in my hands. I also enjoy videography and you can often find me editing and creating sports videos for my kids and their team mates. Oh and I LOVE football.

      5) What’s the last movie you saw that you enjoyed and why?

      I can’t pick just one…. I enjoy all kinds of films. I cannot however recall watching a movie recently.

      6) How did you get into the recruiting business?

      I saw an ad in did some research on the position and found it very intriguing.

      7) Why do you like working at The Hire Connection?

      Calm, enjoyable work environment. We are always learning and there is always a change of pace or direction each month with new accounts. It’s not the same thing every day all year long. OH and I get to wear my 49ers cap any day of the week...who can complain about that!

      8) What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

      Everything but metal… However with a young teenager in the car who is obsessed with music… I listen to a lot more hip hop & R&B than anything else these days… Can’t go wrong with country. That is actually my favorite thing about the Lake… when I moved here from CA 5 yrs ago that was the one thing that stood out. Everywhere I went in town someone was playing country music!

      9) What is one thing that no one at work knows about you?

      I am a diehard twilight saga fan. Go team Edward!

      10) Why are you good at your job?

      I have a strong work ethic matched with professionalism, integrity, patience, enthusiasm, sense of humor, attention to detail, multi-tasking and am very down to earth.



      Kira Kordula grew up as a ‘military brat’ and lived all over the United States. Her family eventually settled down in Southern CA.  Kira and her husband decided it was time for a change of scenery and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2009.
      Kira has over 15 years of experience in customer service and sales, but her main passion has always been building long-term relationships with Clients and industry professionals. She enjoys meeting and talking with people and prides herself in bringing out the voice in the shyest of people. She can be described as having a strong work ethic matched with professionalism, integrity, patience, enthusiasm and a sense of humor.

      How satisfied are physicians?

      Knowing what motivates physicians can be a powerful recruiting tool.  The Hire Connection team has been looking at the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2014 that contains some excellent insight into physician job satisfaction, motivation, and expectations of the current healthcare system in the United States.  Here are some highlights about physician compensation and job satisfaction from this report:

      Do physicians feel fairly compensated?

      Compensation is an important motivator for about 1/2 of the physicians surveyed.  

      Which Physicians feel MOST fairly compensated?

      Orthopedists were the most highly paid physicians, but they fell below the middle of this list, with only 45% believing that they are fairly compensated. And although plastic surgeons were seventh among the top earners, at 37% they were the least likely of all physicians to believe that they are fairly paid. On the other hand, although dermatologists are not among the top 5 earners, they, more than any of the other specialists, believe that their compensation is fair (64%).

      At 77%, dermatologists were number one, although only 53% said they would actually choose medicine again. Internists were last on the list in choosing their specialty again (27%), followed in discouragement by family physicians (32%). Of note, however, internists had the highest percentage of those who would choose medicine as a career again (68%), with family physicians tied for second place with HIV/ID specialists at 67%.  An interesting note with this...Plastic Surgeons are at the bottom of the group that feel properly compensated, but are in the top group with satisfaction in their medical specialty.

      Current compensation levels do not appear to influence whether a physician would choose medicine again. The least likely to choose medicine again (plastic surgeons, orthopedists, radiologists, anesthesiologists) were also among the top earners. These specialists generally perform procedures and might perceive their incomes as declining under future regulations, which could have affected how they answered this question. Conversely, those who are on the low rungs of earnings (internists, family physicians, pediatricians, and infectious disease specialists) were in the top 5 for choosing medicine again.

      To determine general career satisfaction level, Medscape averaged the percentages of physicians who would choose medicine and their specialty again and the percentages of those who thought they were fairly compensated. After making the calculation, the most satisfied physicians were dermatologists (65%) and then psychiatrists (58%) -- a large gap between first and second place. The least satisfied, from the bottom up, were plastic surgeons (45%) and then neurologists and internists (47%).

      The majority of physicians surveyed would choose medicine as their career page, with slightly under half choosing the same specialty.  The eye catching stat here is that most physicians are unhappy with their practice setting.  In a future blog, we will highlight some reasons why physicians may be unhappy with where they work!
