The Hire Connection and Social Media

It's hard to believe that Facebook is now 12 years old and that Twitter has been around for over 10 years!  LinkedIn is the Facebook for professionals, and Google+ has 111 million active users and still growing.  YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world.  Many people now get their news only from social media.   They also get local news, sports, entertainment, gossip, and even the weather from their social accounts.  Luckily, businesses can also utilize these social channels to get their message out to their potential clients.  Each social media channel has a different set of demographics, and in order to reach the maximum amount of potential clients, you need to be on all of them.

How The Hire Connection uses Social Media

At THC, we are all in when it comes to using social media to reach our potential clients and to also reach potential candidates for our opportunities.  We provide insights into our corporate culture, talk industry news, provide motivational thoughts, and help with recruiting tips that we have found successful.  We try to communicate our unique culture, tell stories, and share useful and interesting news and insights.

We also target our audience whenever possible.  We want fans that are truly interested in the medical recruiting world, and we strive to entice potential candidates to learn about our constantly changing opportunities.  For our clients, we also maximize the reach of their opportunities via numerous social media avenues.  Here's some examples of the demographic audience we have:

THC Blog - www.thehireconnection.blogspot.com

This is a critical piece of our social media campaign, as it allows us expanded content to explore many topics and showcase our opportunities.  We will go over 10,000 blog views shortly.

THC Facebook page - www.facebook.com/thehireconnection

Facebook is the undisputed King of social media right now.  We utilize Facebook to reach an older demographic and we target our audience via Facebook promotions.  Over the past 28 days, our posts have reached a total of 12,448 people and these people are engaging with our posts (likes, clicks to our website, shares, etc.).

THC Twitter account - www.twitter.com/hireconnection

We target the younger demographic (read Millennials) with this platform.  We send several short and sweet tweets each week that captures the attention of this growing pool of candidates in the medical world.

THC LinkedIn account - www.linkedin.com/company/the-hire-connection-llc

LinkedIn is very important in our social world.  We utilize this platform to reach not only possible candidates, but also the decision makers at medical facilities.  We use this platform to establish credibility, and reach the older, often more affluent professionals in the world!

THC YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/HireConXion

Video is now the place to be, and we leverage this social media option heavily.  We create custom videos that showcase our opportunities and hits potential candidates with all of the perks of the position, location and community info, and compensation options.  If you have not seen one of our videos, check them out!

THC Google+ page - www.plus.google.com/+TheHireConnectionOsageBeach

The joke goes "only Google executives are on Google+", but with 111 million active users, we don't believe this.  If Google owns the platform, and can affect our website ranking via active posting, then we are all in!

If you are looking for a medical recruiting company that knows the potential of social media and how to effectively utilize it for your opportunities, then we are a clear choice for you.  We can get you in front of thousands of perspective candidates, get the info to them that they want, and get the ball rolling to present you with the RIGHT person.  Contact us now to start your search.  You won't regret making THC your choice!

Social Media - The Hire Connection Taking Medical Recruiting to a New Level

Medical Recruiting - Adapt or Die

The Hire Connection is one of the most unique medical recruiting companies in the nation through it's use of technology.  When we recruit for your company, we use cutting edge methods to reach your potential candidates and we have written past blog posts about how we do this.  One area that has caught our attention over the past year has been the use of Social Media to get information out quickly to our potential clients and to those candidates we want to place in opportunities.

THC Social Media Channels:

YouTube - Video is the Content of Choice

Video has become the content of choice and will continue to dominate in 2015.  In August of 2014, Facebook surpassed YouTube in the number of video views via desktop machines.  As of September, 2014, Facebook attracted a BILLION video views per day, a roughly 30 fold increase since July.

ck-heidi-cohen-facebook-vs-youtube-views
http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/social-media-marketing-predictions-for-2015/

The Hire Connection has embraced videos as a great medium to quickly convey to our potential candidates the information they want when looking at one of our opportunities.

Challenge for 2015 - YouTube is losing steam as other social media platforms are hosting videos on their own platforms.  The Hire Connection will continue to push the video medium across these other channels as well as YouTube.

Follow THC on YouTube

Facebook - Still King, but Getting Seen is Getting Hard

The Hire Connection realized the tremendous popularity of Facebook and its possibilities for increasing reach and connecting with influencers in the recruiting world.  In 2014, Facebook made many changes, to include changing their Edge Rank algorithm in a big way.  The amount of business Facebook posts seen by fans in their newsfeeds took a dramatic drop.

The Hire Connection realized that with the drop in "organic" visibility for posts made on Facebook, paying for ads is now unavoidable.  When we advertise for an opportunity or have other information our fans want to see, we now pay for boosted posts on a regular basis and budget.  This ensures that our clients' searches will be seen by the widest range of people possible.

Challenge for 2015 - In 2015, other Social Media platforms like Twitter may now start with a "Pay to be Seen" model like Facebook.  Ad prices may also rise and our budget will need to rise with it.

Follow THC on Facebook

Twitter - Keeping our THC Clients and Candidates Informed

The Hire Connection is utilizing Twitter to keep our followers in the know when hot new opportunities hit the street, and to cross promote our blog and other social media posts.  With mobile device use growing every day, THC realizes that Twitter may be the best way to reach these users.  Twitter also changed its platform design in April to better feature visual content, and THC has taken advantage of this by utilizing great visuals to drive home tweets.

Challenge in 2015 - Twitter will continue to grow paid advertising and THC needs to be positioned to take advantage of this.  As paid media becomes the norm, budgeting for paid media will become more important than ever

Follow THC on Twitter

LinkedIn - The Facebook for Business Professionals

THC is using LinkedIn to reach our potential clients and candidates through both personal and business page followers.  We realized early on that building a following for our business LinkedIn page will help us grow credibility on this important B2B social media platform.  Van Allen, founder and owner of The Hire Connection also has been utilizing his extremely large personal connection network to help his clients with finding the right candidate.

Is LinkedIn important?  We think so, and here is why according to LinkedIn:
As of April, 2013, In the U.S. alone, LinkedIn surpassed 1 million Doctors and Nurses who have joined LinkedIn. They live and work everywhere from Allentown, PA to Wichita Falls, TX, and include thousands of specialists, like:
  • 1,600+ Otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat specialists)
  • 1,400+ Flight Nurses, (nurses with “aeromedical” training)
  • and 1,200+ brain surgeons!
Challenge in 2015 -  LinkedIn will unveil more tools to reach specific professionals in various regions.  THC must understand how best to utilize these tools and budget accordingly to leverage these options.

Follow THC on LinkedIn

Google+ - An Important, but Little Understood, Platform

The joke about Google+ is that there are only Google executives on this platform.  This is far from the truth and the number of Google+ users grows everyday.  There are over one BILLION Google account holders, and each of these users have a Google+ account available to them.

One large reason that THC has a Google+ page is that social signals from this social media platform (actually from all of our platforms) have a positive effect and is weighed pretty heavily by the search engine giant.  This is also another platform that our potential clients can evaluate our credibility and learn about the recruiting services we offer.

Challenge in 2015 - The future of Google+ is unclear.  If this does become a social media platform of some importance, THC needs to be ready to leverage new visibility.

Follow THC on Google+

THC Blog - The Centerpiece of our Effort

Our Blog is the centerpiece of our Social Media engagement.  We publish twice a week with one blog typically being an opportunity we are featuring.  We cross promote the blog across all of our social media channels to increase readership and reach.  For our non opportunity blogs, we talk about current issues in recruiting, challenges that medical providers are facing, news about The Hire Connection, and other things that catch our interest.

Follow the THC Blog

You can rest assured that when you hire us to find the perfect candidate for your medical facility, The Hire Connection will leverage our experience, our connections, and our social reach to ensure we bring not only the RIGHT person to the table, but the BEST person.

How satisfied are physicians?

Knowing what motivates physicians can be a powerful recruiting tool.  The Hire Connection team has been looking at the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2014 that contains some excellent insight into physician job satisfaction, motivation, and expectations of the current healthcare system in the United States.  Here are some highlights about physician compensation and job satisfaction from this report:

Do physicians feel fairly compensated?

Slide 8.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#8
Compensation is an important motivator for about 1/2 of the physicians surveyed.

Which Physicians feel MOST fairly compensated?

Slide 9.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#9

Orthopedists were the most highly paid physicians, but they fell below the middle of this list, with only 45% believing that they are fairly compensated. And although plastic surgeons were seventh among the top earners, at 37% they were the least likely of all physicians to believe that they are fairly paid. On the other hand, although dermatologists are not among the top 5 earners, they, more than any of the other specialists, believe that their compensation is fair (64%).

Would you choose the same specialty?

Slide 24.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#24
At 77%, dermatologists were number one, although only 53% said they would actually choose medicine again. Internists were last on the list in choosing their specialty again (27%), followed in discouragement by family physicians (32%). Of note, however, internists had the highest percentage of those who would choose medicine as a career again (68%), with family physicians tied for second place with HIV/ID specialists at 67%.  An interesting note with this...Plastic Surgeons are at the bottom of the group that feel properly compensated, but are in the top group with satisfaction in their medical specialty.

Would you choose medicine as a career again?

Slide 23.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#23

Current compensation levels do not appear to influence whether a physician would choose medicine again. The least likely to choose medicine again (plastic surgeons, orthopedists, radiologists, anesthesiologists) were also among the top earners. These specialists generally perform procedures and might perceive their incomes as declining under future regulations, which could have affected how they answered this question. Conversely, those who are on the low rungs of earnings (internists, family physicians, pediatricians, and infectious disease specialists) were in the top 5 for choosing medicine again.

Overall Career Satisfaction

Slide 25.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#25

To determine general career satisfaction level, Medscape averaged the percentages of physicians who would choose medicine and their specialty again and the percentages of those who thought they were fairly compensated. After making the calculation, the most satisfied physicians were dermatologists (65%) and then psychiatrists (58%) -- a large gap between first and second place. The least satisfied, from the bottom up, were plastic surgeons (45%) and then neurologists and internists (47%).

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Slide 26.
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#26

Slide 22.

The majority of physicians surveyed would choose medicine as their career page, with slightly under half choosing the same specialty.  The eye catching stat here is that most physicians are unhappy with their practice setting.  In a future blog, we will highlight some reasons why physicians may be unhappy with where they work!

Case Study - The CREOKS Client Experience with THC

Our clients demand a lot from The Hire Connection when they hire us to recruit the perfect candidate for their health care facility.  CREOKS Behavioral Health Services needed help recruiting health professionals to meet growth in their mental health services and they turned to The Hire Connection!

The Hire Connection Client Experience
“They have met every demand we have placed on them”

Summary:  CREOKS Behavioral Health Services is an organization that provides services to the underinsured and uninsured in Tulsa, OK.  They have over 20 clinics throughout the state, covering Northeast and Central Oklahoma.  In 1980, a group of professionals, that included counselors, ministers, city managers, county commissioners, bankers, and involved citizens of the Tulsa area, formed a team to meet the mental health needs of 3 counties.  CREOKS is certified by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

CREOKS mission is the pursuit of ensuring affordability, quality and integrity of all services, as well as promoting education, community partnerships and the development of additional programs and methods to meet direct client needs and organizational challenges.    CREOKS continues to grow rapidly and the needs for behavioral health issues are in high demand.

Case Details:

Location: Tulsa, Oklaho

Service Area: Tulsa

Physician Staff: 20 Psychiatrists

Growth Needs: We just opened a 16 bed crisis unit and we are planning to open 7-10 sites as Behavioral Health Homes for patients with mental health issues.

Recruitment Method: Outsourced Recruiting

Brent Black is the CEO of CREOKS and he has been with the organization for over 15 years.  Our primary contact is Chris Perry which amongst other responsibilities oversees all provider recruitment.  He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University where he studied counseling before he launched his career with CREOKS in patient care, ultimately moving into the management of CREOKS over the past 5 years.

Prior to using recruiting firms, CREOKS expanded their physician base through word of mouth and even utilized the model of providers going temporary(Locum-tenens) to permanent.  Chris indicated it was very costly way to recruit and decided to take a different direction.

Then we met The Hire Connection
When we asked Chris why he ultimately went with The Hire Connection(THC) he said, “it was initially the money and how affordable they were.   Most firms I was considering were asking us to pay upwards of $50,000.00 to bring us a Psychiatrist and The Hire Connection was much more reasonable.”  CREOKS was using locums for quite some time before realizing the cost was really putting a dent in their bottom line.  “My frustration with other firms we used in the past, was that newly recruited physicians never stayed and the candidates that were forwarded to us were poor quality”.

CREOKS was under a lot of pressure to find a Psychiatrist for the new Crisis Center that was being built.  They needed The Hire Connection to find a Psychiatrist to start within 3 months after they signed the agreement with THC.  That was a tall order.  The Hire Connection delivered a board certified high level Psychiatrist in the allotted time.  Shortly after that successful recruitment, Chris asked THC to secure a mid-level provider with a mental health background.  In 5 short weeks, THC was able to secure the Advanced Nurse Practitioner they were seeking.

“You guys were able to get a good understanding of what we needed.  It was important to the President of THC and Kathryn to come and learn about the organization and we also loved that you were located very close to us”.

  2. 80% of doctors surveyed utilized a mobile device such as an Ipad, Iphone, or Android
  3. 41% of doctors surveyed viewed podcasts
  4. 13% of doctors surveyed were blogging

Meet Van Allen - Owner of The Hire Connection

    Van_1128CollarCSq

    Meet Van Allen

Born in Orange, TX, Van grew up in Lake Charles, LA. Van made a few stops before graduating from Southwestern University in Waxahachie, TX. After chasing his music dream in Nashville, TN, he moved to Dallas, TX and tripped into the physician recruiting business. Van considers himself the luckiest person in the world because he found something he loved at a young age and he has never looked back. After working for the largest physician recruiting company in the country, he moved to Columbia, MO and opened his own firm. He sold that company in 2006 and then came back into the arena he loves and knows so well and opened his latest venture, The Hire Connection.

We put some questions to Van and here are his answers!

    1) Where did you grow up?

Born in Orange, TX but grew up most of my life in Lake Charles, LA. My mom and dad who are still married after 55 years met in Lake Charles and that is where we spent most of of our life.

    2) Why did you get into the medical recruiting business?

I answered an ad in the Dallas Morning Newspaper. The business seemed interesting, fast paced, steep learning curve and I worked with a great group of guys who made my initial foray into the physician recruiting world a lot of fun.

    3) What is your favorite type of music?

Any kind of country. New and Old. And then there are some obscure artists that I just love like David Wilcox.

    4) Who is your family?

I am married to Julie. We have been married for 15 years and we have an awesome daughter, Reagan. Reg is very involved in competition dance which keeps her and her mother pretty busy.

    5) What is your favorite sport to follow and who is your favorite team?

My favorite sport is baseball and I love the Texas Rangers but I am also and avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

    6) What movie did you last see that you liked?

The last movie I saw at the movie theater was Jaws. That pretty much sums of my passion for movies. There are a lot of things I would much rather do than sit in a chair for 3 hours.

    7) What is your biggest pet peeve?

    Tardiness.

    8) What do you like to do when you relax?

I don't relax a lot but my favorite past time would be playing golf.

    9) What do you like most about living in Missouri

I love everything about MO. I love the four seasons even when it's extreme. I love the lake. It's my favorite place. We have two seasons and both are great. We have the high energy tourism season and then we have the locals quiet season. They are both great.

    10) What is the best thing you like most about medical recruiting?

I love the pace of the work and I love the problem solving component of this line of work. You have to be able to think very quick on your feet, you have to be able to juggle a lot of balls at one time and we work with very high level professionals.

Comprehensive Recruitment Services - The Hire Connection Difference

The Hire Connection offers its clients the industry's most comprehensive range of medical recruitment services.  We couple technology, expertise and accountability to source, screen, qualify, present and place providers to satisfy recruitment goals and improve provider retention.

     Data Acquisition and Data Appending

THC invests heavily in data and bolsters that data via an extensive appending process.  Quality data is the foundation for an effective marketing campaign.  While many agencies advertise using limited candidate contact points in order to save money, THC aggressively pursues added contact points to ensure your message is broadcast in a wide variety of mediums.

    Unique "800" Numbers

THC assigns unique toll-free numbers to every opportunity we represent.  Outside of capturing 100% of candidate responses (even when candidate does not leave a message), THC tracking systems verify response rate and ensures candidate response is routed to the appropriate search consultant.

THC uses a wide variety of advertising mediums to drive candidates to your opportunity.  Built into your guaranteed investment, THC proactively "casts a broad net" to peak candidate attention and elicit a timely response.

    Our Sourcing Tools include:

    • Designated Recruiter

    • Fax Campaigns
    • Social Media
    • ...and MORE

    Candidate Screening

THC will save your organization time, money and aggravation by carefully screening each candidate to ensure they meet or exceed your specific criteria.  In addition to securing candidates' CV/resume, your recruiter will go to great lengths to understand the professional and personal background of each candidate.  Along with candidate screening, your designated recruiter will learn about the entire family's needs, wants and interests.

THC provides the client with a detailed cover letter (narrative) that overviews both the candidate and their family.  THC provides its clients with the information they need and want to make the best possible selection and maximize time with the candidate and their family.

    Background Check

THC conducts a thorough background check on each submitted candidate which consists of:

    • Licensure and Credentials

    • Financial Background Check
    • 4-6 Professional References

    Pre-Close

Each candidate is asked a series of pre-closing questions to determine the candidate's interest level and availability for relocation.  This information is communicated to the client prior to a site visit or interview.

Candidate Phone Interview and Site Visit

THC can be as involved as you desire with candidate negotiations.  THC understands this can be a critical time in the recruitment process and works closely with its client to ensure a positive outcome!

    Our Technology makes the difference!

    Some thing never change

The only thing that hasn’t changed in the recruiting world is the fact that nothing has changed. Van Allen was one of the early pioneers of the healthcare recruiting world and he finds it absolutely staggering that some things never change. Like how candidates are sourced for practice opportunities either by in-house recruiters or recruiting firms. Virtually, every firm out there is doing it the same way they did back in 1987. Oh, the mail piece might look a little different and to save money they might go 3rd class instead of 1st class but when it’s all said and done it’s still a piece of mail that gets shoved into a mailbox.
The USPS is closing down offices all over the country with the threat of closing down more. There are discussions to close down Saturday service and the USPS is 15 Billion in debt. News flash, they aren’t in debt because people are over using them. They got in this position because there is technology available that has replaced this worn out turtle. The American people simply don’t mail things anymore. These aren’t my facts, they are on the news every night, just flip the TV and watch any news network.

    Some things we changed

THC scrubs all available data not only enhances the integrity of the data but we acquire:
    cell phone numbers
    home phone numbers
    personal & professional email addresses
    home mailing addresses

The reason the recruiting company is charging you .85 per email is because the list company is charging them .40 per email and they want to profit from this. We don’t rely on list companies for email addresses we append our own data own the email addresses. That enables us to launch as many E-blasts as we feel are necessary to source candidates for your opportunity.

Campaigning with more than a postcard!

Once we acquire the appropriate data we can then launch a powerful campaign that includes but is certainly not limited to:
    Voice Blasting
    Text Blasting
    Email Blasting
Customized direct mail campaigns to both homes & offices
Our very own proprietary Landing Page that has video interactive capabilities

We capture & keep the data in a comprehensive system

Every time we launch a campaign, we provision and assign 5 unique toll free numbers to each mode of communication we utilize to launch your opportunity message. This does two things for us. It tells us where each and every lead is generated from and it serves as a sophisticated voice mail system. Every time a provider presses send on the phone we have captured that phone number. We know what mode of communication they are calling from. We know what their specialty is. And we know what opportunity they are calling about. We embrace a very exhaustive comprehensive system that connects your opportunity message with the candidate but we also have the ability to capture data that would otherwise be lost.

    We work fast

The speed in which we launch your campaign is so much faster than any firm in the industry. While the competition is creating their mail piece with proof after proof and trying to decide on those life altering decisions like which photo to use: “Should we use snowcapped mountain as the backdrop or should we use the balloon festival picture from last year”, we already have you campaign created and launched and sourcing qualified candidates. THC has its own full time creative writing department that crafts and frames your opportunity message to get optimal response rates.

Let our technology make all the difference in your next recruiting search!
