The Hire Connection and Social Media

It's hard to believe that Facebook is now 12 years old and that Twitter has been around for over 10 years!  LinkedIn is the Facebook for professionals, and Google+ has 111 million active users and still growing.  YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world.  Many people now get their news only from social media.   They also get local news, sports, entertainment, gossip, and even the weather from their social accounts.  Luckily, businesses can also utilize these social channels to get their message out to their potential clients.  Each social media channel has a different set of demographics, and in order to reach the maximum amount of potential clients, you need to be on all of them.

How The Hire Connection uses Social Media

At THC, we are all in when it comes to using social media to reach our potential clients and to also reach potential candidates for our opportunities.  We provide insights into our corporate culture, talk industry news, provide motivational thoughts, and help with recruiting tips that we have found successful.  We try to communicate our unique culture, tell stories, and share useful and interesting news and insights.

We also target our audience whenever possible.  We want fans that are truly interested in the medical recruiting world, and we strive to entice potential candidates to learn about our constantly changing opportunities.  For our clients, we also maximize the reach of their opportunities via numerous social media avenues.  Here's some examples of the demographic audience we have:

THC Blog - www.thehireconnection.blogspot.com

This is a critical piece of our social media campaign, as it allows us expanded content to explore many topics and showcase our opportunities.  We will go over 10,000 blog views shortly.

THC Facebook page - www.facebook.com/thehireconnection

Facebook is the undisputed King of social media right now.  We utilize Facebook to reach an older demographic and we target our audience via Facebook promotions.  Over the past 28 days, our posts have reached a total of 12,448 people and these people are engaging with our posts (likes, clicks to our website, shares, etc.).

THC Twitter account - www.twitter.com/hireconnection

We target the younger demographic (read Millennials) with this platform.  We send several short and sweet tweets each week that captures the attention of this growing pool of candidates in the medical world.

THC LinkedIn account - www.linkedin.com/company/the-hire-connection-llc

LinkedIn is very important in our social world.  We utilize this platform to reach not only possible candidates, but also the decision makers at medical facilities.  We use this platform to establish credibility, and reach the older, often more affluent professionals in the world!

THC YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/HireConXion

Video is now the place to be, and we leverage this social media option heavily.  We create custom videos that showcase our opportunities and hits potential candidates with all of the perks of the position, location and community info, and compensation options.  If you have not seen one of our videos, check them out!

THC Google+ page - www.plus.google.com/+TheHireConnectionOsageBeach

The joke goes "only Google executives are on Google+", but with 111 million active users, we don't believe this.  If Google owns the platform, and can affect our website ranking via active posting, then we are all in!

If you are looking for a medical recruiting company that knows the potential of social media and how to effectively utilize it for your opportunities, then we are a clear choice for you.  We can get you in front of thousands of perspective candidates, get the info to them that they want, and get the ball rolling to present you with the RIGHT person.  Contact us now to start your search.  You won't regret making THC your choice!

Recruiting 101 - Tell Your Story to Attract the Best Talent

Many experts believe that the United States faces an emergency in healthcare with a massive physician shortage looming. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, the US will face a shortage of 90,000 physicians by 2020, and 130,000 by 2025. This prediction means that the available talent pool for filling your medical facilities opportunities is shrinking and that recruitment efforts for these physicians becomes even more complicated. With the private sector also competing for this talent (pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech companies as examples), your recruiting efforts need to be honed to new levels of effectiveness. At the best medical recruiting company in the US, The Hire Connection team has learned that "Telling Your Story" can make the difference in landing the right physician for your opportunity.

Telling Your Story

Doing this the same old way does not work anymore. Talking about upward advancement, higher pay, blah, blah, blah, is not the best way to tell your story. Most candidates already understand that if they stick around long enough, their career and pay will advance. These candidates most likely have heard the same stories from other recruiters as well. Tell your candidates a story that will resonate with them, and pique their interest in your opportunity.

Have a Compelling Voice in Your Story

Effective story telling is based on how well you can capture the attention of the audience and engage them on an emotional level. One way to do this is to have your current physicians tell their stories. How did they come to the conclusion that the particular hospital was right for them? What reasons were compelling to them? What struck a chord in them about choosing the opportunity?  Let your physicians do the recruiting for you!

Tell Their Family a Story

If you can tell the physicians family a great story about the opportunity, you are more likely to have the candidate say "yes". Talk about why your current physicians love the schools, the dining, the shopping, the recreational activities in the area, and why quality of life is so high. This quite often is more important to the candidate and their family than compensation or advancement opportunities.

Consider the Millennials

Millennials think a little differently than older candidates. They often have demands for work/life balances and require more flexibility than experienced physicians. Millennials are much more motivated by having "fun" at work than older healthcare professionals. Tell your story in a way that will appeal to your younger candidates and you will find success.

The Hire Connection is a premier medical recruiting firm that is well known for matching qualified physicians with employers and healthcare providers. We can "Tell Your Story" for you in an effective and financially efficient way for your next opportunity. Give us a call and we will tell you "Our Story"!

5 Mistakes Amateur Recruiters Make (And How To Avoid Them)

Recruiting quality medical staff for your facility is unlike any other task you will ever undertake. Due to the physician shortage, the number of open positions greatly outweigh the number of doctors searching for new careers. As a result, healthcare recruiters must be at the top of the game in order to attract the best candidates - a single mistake could send the candidates looking elsewhere. Our physician recruiting experts have compiled a list of the most common mistakes amateur recruiters make and how you can avoid them in your future efforts.

1. Delaying The Communication Process
When you are recruiting prospective team members, timely communication is essential. Candidates need to know where they stand and where you are at in the hiring process. If they go several days (or worse, weeks) without hearing from you, they may assume that you have filled the position with someone else and begin actively searching for other opportunities. Even if they respond when you do reach back out to them, the delay will have likely given the candidate an unpleasant impression of your facility.

2. Extending An Offer To The First Promising Candidate
Screening and interviewing candidates is incredibly time-consuming. If you are conducting your recruiting in-house, it also becomes incredibly expensive. In an effort to save time and money, you may be tempted to extend an offer to the first promising candidate you come across. However, just because a certain candidate is more promising than others you have interviewed does not mean he is a perfect fit for your facility. Your best bet will be to find three to four outstanding candidates, and hire someone from that pool.

3. Not Allowing For Enough Face Time With Promising Candidates
What does your typical interview process look like? Most recruiters screen candidates based on their initial applications and resumes. From this initial pool, they will choose physicians to interview over the phone. From there, they will narrow it down to candidates they wish to interview in person. If the initial in-person interview goes well, you should arrange for the candidate to shadow someone in your facility and spend several hours with you or the other recruiters. Your initial conversations with the candidates will likely be relatively shallow and the candidates will be making a conscious effort to make a good impression. If you want to really get to know them, you have to allow yourself more time to spend with them.

4. Neglecting To Include A Signing Bonus In Your Offer
Once upon a time, signing bonuses were unique incentives recruiters included to entice candidates to accept their offers. As the number of open opportunities continues to outweigh the number of available candidates, however, candidates have the freedom to be more and more picky about which offers they accept. Signing bonuses have evolved from a special perk to an expected commodity. Some signing bonuses are even climbing into the six-figure range. If you neglect to include a signing bonus in your offer, your chosen candidate may go looking for a better one.

5. Attempting To Do It All Yourself
In today's extremely competitive job market, attracting the best available physicians is not an easy task. Inexperienced in-house recruiters often do not have the industry experience and expertise required to do the job well. If you are preparing to hire a new physician, you can better set yourself up for success by contracting an experienced medical recruiting company to assist you with the process.

If you are looking for a professional healthcare recruiting firm to assist with your recruitment efforts, we would love to talk to you. Owned and lead by a pioneer in the healthcare recruiting industry, The Hire Connection consists of a team of highly trained physician recruiting experts who are dedicated to your company's success. 4 Reasons To Hire A Professional Medical Recruiting Firm

Many hospitals hire in-house recruiters to help them find and recruit new talent for their facilities, but more and more people are beginning to realize that in-house recruiters face several limitations. In many cases, hiring a professional recruiting company to assist with your recruiting efforts is incredibly advantageous. Here are a few reasons why:

1. You Can Reach More Candidates
Where do you go to find the best candidates? As professional recruiters, we eat, breathe, and sleep recruiting, which means that we know the best places to find prospective candidates and how to reach them. We maximize alumni associations, job boards, print advertisements, cold calls, social media, and applicant databases to actively seek out the best candidates available. We also screen each candidate before presenting them to you, ensuring that you only spend your time interviewing those with the most potential.

2. You'll Save Money
Most people believe that hiring stand-alone recruiting firms are much more expensive than keeping in-house recruiters on staff, but this may not actually be true. In order to keep recruiters on staff, you have to pay their salaries and benefits in addition to the cost of advertising open positions and interviewing potential candidates. At The Hire Connection, LLC, we offer an all-inclusive recruitment package where, for a flat fee, you can enjoy access to our expertise, marketing materials, and everything else you need to fill your open opportunity.

3. You'll Get Help Putting An Offer Together
Hiring trends are always evolving, especially in the medical community, and what was considered a rare perk yesterday may be expected now. Signing bonuses are an excellent example; they used to be an unusual incentive served as icing on the cake, but physicians today have come to expect them and may look elsewhere for employment if your position does not offer one. As full-time physician recruiting experts, we stay up-to-date on all the new hiring trends and can help you construct an offer that will attract today's top candidates.

4. You'll Get An Honest, Unbiased Look At Your Hiring Situation
In order to hire excellent team members, you have to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Because they are so closely involved, in-house recruiters sometimes have difficulty getting a realistic, unbiased look at their company's situation. As experienced medical recruiters, we know how to identify and accentuate each hospital's strengths. We can also help account for the weaknesses and identify how to work around them. Our clients agree that this outside perspective is often incredibly helpful.

Contact The Hire Connection To Begin The Recruitment Process
The list of advantages offered by a medical recruiting company does not stop there. Hiring an outside recruiter also helps you fill positions more quickly, gives you a buffer in the negotiation process, and countless other advantages.

5 Core Personality Traits Of A Great Physician Recruiter

Medical recruiting is an entirely unique field, with challenges and triumphs unlike any other. Working with a professional medical recruiter can be a great way to lighten the load of your in-house recruiters and access the world's most promising candidates, but how do you know which medical recruiter to hire? In addition to asking about their experience, you can identify the best physician recruiters by evaluating their personality characteristics. Here is a quick look at some of the primary personality traits all good recruiters should possess.

1. High Emotional Intelligence
Physician job placement is all about relationships. In order to connect the right physicians and nurses to the right opportunities, recruiters must get to know both the hospitals they represent and every candidate they interview. It takes a great deal of emotional intelligence to recognize which individuals will be a good fit for which healthcare facilities. Good recruiters should be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of both companies and individuals so they can help forge new relationships that will last for years to come.

2. A Relentless Work Ethic
Recruiting is not a 9-5 job. Many prospective candidates are still holding current positions, which means they may not be able to conduct their job searches and/or interviews until after standard business hours. Medical recruiters often work around the clock to attract the best physicians and nurses. In order to achieve the results you need, you should find a recruiter who is willing to put in long hours (especially in the evenings and on weekends).

3. Strong Verbal Communication Skills
Recruiting requires a great deal of direct contact with prospective candidates. At The Hire Connection, we screen all candidates ahead of time so we can present only the ones with the highest potential for each opportunity. This screening process requires direct communication with the candidates. We rely on our good communication skills to draw the candidates out and determine whether or not they will be a good fit for the opportunity.

4. Excellent Writing Skills
Whether in print or online, many of the advertising tools recruiters use to promote open opportunities require written descriptions of the opportunities, the hospitals, the local communities, and the lifestyles the candidates could lead if they took the positions. These descriptions must be well-written in order to draw the candidates in and help them envision the potential each opportunity presents. For this reason, excellent writing skills are a must.

5. A Highly Competitive Instinct
As the physician shortage draws ever nearer, medical recruiting is becoming more and more competitive. The effects of the shortage are already being felt in many parts of the country, and are expected to increase drastically over the next decade (without any relief in sight). There are a lot of open opportunities all across the country, and not enough available physicians to go around. In order to find and recruit the best candidates during this shortage, recruiters must be highly competitive.

Revamping Your Recruiting Strategies In 2016

The New Year is upon us. As we prepare to enter 2016, it's time to critically evaluate your business practices to identify which ones are worth continuing in the coming year. Since physician recruiting is the lifeblood of your hospital's success, it seems only natural that we pay extra attention to our recruiting strategies. The Hire Connection, LLC is here to help you plan a successful 2016 with these tips for revamping your healthcare recruiting strategies.

Rewrite Your Position Descriptions
Your position description is typically the first line of contact a potential candidate will have with your position. Take a few moments to put yourself in your candidates' shoes and carefully read over the descriptions for your open positions. Do they look like something that would inspire you to submit your application? The phrasing you use can have a major impact. For example, simply calling your positions "opportunities" rather than "jobs" can make them much more appealing.

Proactively Seek Out Candidates
If you want to fill your position quickly, you shouldn't have to wait for the right candidates to come to you. You can actively seek out candidates by pulling resumes on job hunting websites, culling through candidates on LinkedIn, and directly reaching out to potential candidates via the phone and snail mail. Using a wide variety of different strategies and communication methods can help you access a wider pool of applicants more quickly, which will increase your likelihood of reaching the candidates with true potential.

Advertise Your Opportunities Online
Posting your opportunities on your website is a great way to make your information easily accessible to potential candidates. If your hospital hires frequently, you may want to consider dedicating an entire page on your site (or possibly even a stand-alone website) to your open opportunities. Regardless of where your opportunity information is located, be sure to include links back to your practice's website so candidates can learn more about your facility. If they have the opportunity to see first-hand all of the great services you offer and the values you live by, candidates may be more interested in your facility.

Appeal To Your Candidates' Personal Needs
When searching for a new job, applicants have two equally important (yet entirely separate) needs to fill. First, they need to choose a job they find fulfilling, stimulating, and enjoyable. Second, they need to find a community that will serve as a safe, enriching home for their families. When advertising your opportunity, it's important to market to both of these needs. Advertising your benefits and excellent call schedule is important, but don't let that distract you from promoting your community's unique selling points.

Hire A Recruiting Firm To Aid In The Process
A professional healthcare recruiting firm can be valuable resources for a hospital looking to hire a new physician. In-house recruiters have important roles to play, but they face some limitations. As a dedicated physician recruiting company, The Hire Connection can stay abreast of the latest recruiting strategies and technologies. If you are looking to expand your practice in 2016, check out our website or give us a call at (866) 661-4473 to learn more about how we can help with your recruiting needs.

Challenges Of Physician Recruiting In Rural Areas

According the USDA, roughly 46.2 million people in the United States live in rural (or "nonmetro" areas) - almost 15% of our entire population. Despite these numbers, rural hospitals routinely face several challenges when it comes to recruiting high-quality physicians. This week, The Hire Connection is here to examine some of these challenges and how you can overcome them.

Challenges Of Medical Recruiting In Rural Areas

Difficulty Traveling
With limited access to big airports, traveling to rural areas is often more tedious and time-consuming. As a result, it can be harder for local hospitals to convince physicians to come to their premises for interviews, let alone move their families to this rural location. Rural hospitals can combat this by offering to pay for their prospective candidates' travel expenses during the interview process. We also recommend including relocation assistance in your offer; if your new physicians knows that they will have help covering the costs associated with moving their families to the new area, they may be more likely to seriously consider your opportunity.

Lack Of Cultural Awareness
Because rural locations are less densely populated, many residents find that the opportunity to be exposed to and interact with different cultures is severely limited in these areas. However, it's important to remember that rural life is a culture all its own - and a beautiful one at that. When recruiting physicians for your rural opportunity, be sure to emphasize the unique advantages of living in a quiet community.

Limited Recreational Activities
Residents in big cities or densely populated suburban areas often enjoy access to a wide range of recreational and leisure opportunities, including everything from amusement parks to botanical gardens to community centers. Those who live in rural areas sometimes complain about the lack of recreational opportunities that are available to them, and prospective candidates may be reluctant to move to rural areas for this reason. However, living in rural areas offers its own set of unique benefits, so you an offset this drawback by playing up these advantages when recruiting potential candidates.

Ways To Overcome These Medical Recruiting Challenges

Living in rural communities offers several unique benefits that cannot be enjoyed anywhere else. Here are a few examples of the advantages you can emphasize when promoting your rural opportunity:

Lots Of Land
One of the biggest advantages of living in a rural area is the opportunity to own a large plot of land. In addition to helping build family wealth, owning a lot of land gives you extra privacy and the opportunity to expand your home, shed, or barn in the future. You can even use your land for supplemental income by growing (and selling) produce or building a recreational attraction (such as a corn maze).

Beautiful Views
It doesn't matter where in the country you are; if you live in a rural area, you can almost guarantee that you will be surrounded by beautiful scenic views. Majestic forests, sweeping plains, rolling hills, soaring mountains, and endless oceans are only a few examples of the amazing vistas residents in rural areas get to enjoy every day. Being surrounding by nature has also been shown to reduce stress levels and boost overall moods.

Lower Cost Of Living
Living in rural areas is often much more affordable than living in big cities. Almost everything costs less in rural areas, including housing, groceries, fuel, and recreational opportunities. Relocating to a rural area can be a great financial advantage for anyone who his looking for ways to keep costs down.

Rural areas also typically have lower crime rates, less noise pollution, and an amazing sense of community that you can't find anywhere else. These are all excellent examples of the benefits you should emphasize when marketing an opportunity in a rural hospital.

Remember To Recruit The Whole Family!

Experienced recruiters can tell you that if you want to successfully recruit top candidates, you must recruit their families as well. Family members, especially spouses, often have a significant impact on the decision to take a new job - particularly if it requires relocating to a new area.

The Hire Connection Can Help You Recruit Your Rural Opportunities

If you are recruiting physicians for an opportunity at a rural hospital, contact the team at The Hire Connection, LLC. Our experienced medical recruiters can help you aggressively market your opportunity. We can also screen your potential candidates to ensure that you only interview those with the best potential.
