Summary:  

Pocahontas is a one hospital town and the hospital has 50 beds with a Level 4 Trauma designation. Pocahontas Medical Clinic(PMC) is locally owned. They currently have 5 Family Practitioners and 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners. This is a very busy practice in need of sourcing and securing a new physician due to a physician relocating.

Pocahontas is located in Randolph County and has a population of 6500. It is the only county in the US with 5 rivers running through it. They are very proud to be listed as one of the Top 3 Most Affordable Cities in Arkansas. PMC is located between three other communities with the closest being Jonesboro Arkansas, which is 40 minutes away. 

Case Details:           

Location: Pocahontas, Arkansas

Service Area: Pocahontas

Physician Staff: 5

Growth Needs: The city of Pocahontas has been awarded a new plant that opens in 2015 and will employ over 1000 people and consequently will increase the PMC patient visits. They will need to recruit additional physicians to meet the needs.

                                   Recruitment Method: Outsourced Recruiting

Anthony Pemberton is the CEO of Pocahontas Medical Clinic. Most of PMC’s staff, including the providers, were born and raised in Pocahontas. They like to describe the facility as “your hometown healthcare clinic”. PMC opened its doors in August of 1979 and, in addition to the 7 providers, they employ 40 supplementary staff. With the continued growth of Pocahontas, PMC plans to expand by opening a new clinic. At that point, they will need to bring in another physician as well as a Nurse Practitioner. 

When this recruiting process began, PMC needed one physician to start in 2014 and an additional provider for the new clinic that will open in 2015. “Their quick and timely placement certainly meets our immediate need and we are confident they will fill our next need as soon as it’s launched”, said Anthony Pemberton, CEO.

The Hire Connection at the Alabama Primary Health Care Association conference

The Hire connection team is currently in Orange, Alabama for the annual Alabama Primary Health Care Association (APHCA) conference. The APHCA is an association of community health centers that are all non-profit medical practices that tend to be in high-need areas of Alabama.  The Hire Connection was picked several years ago to be a prescreened preferred provider of recruitment services to these APHCA member facilities.  There are a total of 126 community health centers currently in Alabama.

Catching Fire:  Igniting Leadership, Accelerating Performance

The Alabama Primary Health Care Association Annual Conference is an opportunity for their membership, partners, and collaborators to learn from one another leading experts in areas of organizational development, clinical best practices, finance and management, governance, technology, partnerships and education.  The conference is focused on meeting the needs of Alabamians and providing access to coordinated health care and improved outcomes. Every year, the 250+ attendees include key decision makers and leadership from health centers across the state.
