Due to huge demand for our unique medical recruiting expertise, The Hire Connection is expanding to Columbia, Missouri.  We will open our doors on December 22nd to a new state of the art office.  Our new space will be completely new and absolutely beautiful, and we will feature some photos once the office is complete.

Shelby Memorial Hospital (SMH), Shelbyville, Illinois, the lone hospital serving Shelby County’s population of 5000; decided they needed more coverage for their area.

They needed a provider to cover their rural clinic that is critical to ensuring the viability of their organization. “This recruitment enables us to provide treatment to a lot of patients that would have gone to other facilities if we had not been successful.” This recruitment will also increase the hospital’s revenue.

Shelbyville is a small farming community and is most proud of their invention of the Pick-Up Bailer. It was designed, and also manufactured, in Shelbyville. This has made a huge impact on the community.

Marilyn Sears is the CEO of SMH, a 30 bed not-for-profit community hospital located in Shelbyville, IL. They take a lot of pride in providing quality healthcare for the county and it has been a tradition for over 90 years. 

This small hospital stays busy in the ER with just over 30,000 visits annually. Marilyn Sears was born in this hospital, has experienced and embraces the hospital’s philosophy of ultimate excellence in patient caring and describes the hospital in two words…."totally compassionate”.


SMH provides a round-the-clock Emergency Department that is fully staffed by physicians and highly trained nurses. They also feature a full cadre of both in and outpatient services including a 24-hour lab and an imaging department that is fully digital. Another component of SMH is an advanced surgery department with an acute inpatient care unit.

Marilyn has worked with other contingent and retained firms in the past. She got really frustrated with previous firms because they would essentially submit every physician in their database without even trying to ensure they were a good fit. She said she called a candidate one night that had been sent over by a firm and learned during that conversation, the candidate was an Orthopedic Surgeon when she was recruiting a Family Practitioner. We made Pocahontas Family Medical Center very happy!

Pocahontas is a one hospital town and the hospital has 50 beds with a Level 4 Trauma designation. Pocahontas Medical Clinic(PMC) is locally owned. They currently have 5 Family Practitioners and 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners. This is a very busy practice in need of sourcing and securing a new physician due to a physician relocating.



Pocahontas is located in Randolph County and has a population of 6500. It is the only county in the US with 5 rivers running through it. They are very proud to be listed as one of the Top 3 Most Affordable Cities in Arkansas. PMC is located between three other communities with the closest being Jonesboro Arkansas, which is 40 minutes away.

Growth Needs: The city of Pocahontas has been awarded a new plant that opens in 2015 and will employ over 1000 people and consequently will increase the PMC patient visits. They will need to recruit additional physicians to meet the needs.

Anthony Pemberton is the CEO of Pocahontas Medical Clinic. Most of PMC’s staff, including the providers, were born and raised in Pocahontas. They like to describe the facility as “your hometown healthcare clinic”. PMC opened its doors in August of 1979 and, in addition to the 7 providers, they employ 40 supplementary staff. With the continued growth of Pocahontas, PMC plans to expand by opening a new clinic. At that point, they will need to bring in another physician as well as a Nurse Practitioner. 


When this recruiting process began, PMC needed one physician to start in 2014 and an additional provider for the new clinic that will open in 2015. “Their quick and timely placement certainly meets our immediate need and we are confident they will fill our next need as soon as it’s launched”, said Anthony Pemberton, CEO.
