The life of a medical recruiter

The Hire Connection is a fast pace, exciting company to work for.  For the right people, a career in medical recruiting can be very rewarding and very lucrative.  We thought we would give you a little insight in the day in the life of a medical recruiter

A quick overview of healthcare recruiting careers

Healthcare recruiters help hospitals and other medical facilities find qualified candidates for opportunities.  They help market and then sell the medical opportunity to the candidate.  Each recruiter will pre-qualify the candidate based on their education, experience, credentials, and assist with the interview process.  This often entails looking at CVs and resumes and then phone interviewing the most qualified candidates on paper.

What's expected

Typically, most healthcare recruiting jobs are more than a 40 hour a week job.  Many candidates are only available during evening hours.  There can be a lot of travel as THC recruiters are expected to know the community the facility and opportunity are located in, they may visit candidates in person, and attend meetings with executives or managers.  In addition, some weekend hours may be required to attend conferences, and entertaining candidates and their families during visits, particularly if the candidate is from out of town.

A recruiter needs great phone skills, speaking skills, and must enjoy talking with people!  The recruiter will spend a good deal of time on the phone (several hours) pre-qualifying potential candidates.  As with anything, time will also be spent during the day on admin work to include reviewing CVs, emailing candidates, and checking backgrounds and references among other things.

Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task is also important.  Recruiters may be juggling several opportunities at a time and organizational skills and focus are critical.  Finally, persuasiveness and tenacity along with a great attitude is needed to help you keep going even after multiple rejections.

What can I make?

Medical recruiting salaries vary widely in healthcare recruiting.  Industry wide, salaries may range from $30,000 to $45,000 for entry level or lower level recruiters, up to mid $100,000s for experienced top producers. Therefore, the average income usually is somewhere in the middle of those extremes, in the $60,000 - $85,000 range.
