The Hire Connection - Better results, Better Approach

Though relatively young, The Hire Connection (THC) is well known for matching qualified candidates with employers and providers. In fact, THC founder Van Allen, with over 20 years in healthcare recruiting is considered a pioneer by many in the industry.

Better Results

Under Allen’s leadership, THC’s unique approach to recruiting, which fully utilizes technology for better results, more efficiently helps candidates and facilities realize their goals. Personally, we think every recruiting firm should work this way; but then again, we’re kind of glad they don’t.

But perhaps you’re wondering, “How do I know what firm to select or which recruiter to work with as I begin my journey”. When making such an important decision, we suggest you start with these three considerations:

1. Have They Visited

Always ask the recruiter if they have personally visited the location they are sharing with you. If the answer is no, they are probably representing a Contingent firm that hasn’t done all their homework. This is not to say Contingent firms misrepresent opportunities. They do their best, but their services are limited, and without a site visit they are not sufficiently informed. As a result, you’re left with an incomplete overview of the community and opportunity, and a whole lot of questions.

At THC we get to know our Opportunities firsthand and develop working relationships so we can confidently represent them in detail. This eliminates some of the potential train wrecks during the interview process.

2. How do They Select

Ask the recruiter how they conduct their selection process in terms of what opportunities they represent. If they present every opportunity that comes down the pike, rather than ones that meet your criteria, they may be wasting your time.

At THC we carefully hand-pick our opportunities and make sure they initially meet our rigid 3-pronged criteria: First, they must provide a competitive compensation and benefits package with tremendous upside potential. Secondly, we check out their leadership team: Is it forward thinking enough to survive in this fast moving ever-changing healthcare world? Finally, we make sure each opportunity provides an environment conducive to a candidate’s practice preferences, and additionally allows room for professional and personal growth.

3. What Are the Politics Like

Ask your recruiter what they know about the opportunity politics. Though turf wars and strained relationships are common, nobody wants to walk into a war zone unprepared.

At THC, we research all aspects of every opportunity to make sure no candidate enters a position littered with land mines.

Incidentally, these are just three of the considerations we sift through before officially partnering with an employer.

We Take Great Pride

At THC, because our team takes great pride in providing every candidate with an amazing placement experience from start to finish, we work exceptionally hard to get the best results. Hopefully, our efforts today will cause you to think of The Hire Connection first in the future.

The healthcare recruiting industry has two traditional approaches to the way recruiting companies will use for placement of healthcare professionals.  Let's take a quick look at each approach and then The Hire Connection approach!

Traditional Contingent Approach

The contingent approach is sometimes considered a value, because no payment is required until when or IF, a candidate is placed.  Contingent agencies offer limited client services and sourcing ability, which can prolong recruitment efforts and have a negative impact on the quality of your outcome.

Contingent agencies represent the candidate...not you or your company!  How much incentive do you think they have to make a placement at  your facility versus others?

Traditional Retained Approach

The retained approach offers a comprehensive recruitment strategy that designates staff, resources and services to your search.

Retained agencies are expensive, difficult to budget...and if the search goes unfilled, the client loses EVERYTHING they have invested in the search.  There also may be additional advertising charges and the average financial risk if the search goes unfilled is $28,000.

The Hire Connection Approach!

The Hire Connection was founded to provide a comprehensive recruitment solution that is financially safe and affordable.

We implement a full-service recruitment strategy with a unique money back guarantee to substantially mitigate your financial risk.  Coupling technology, expertise and accountability, The Hire Connection services are designed to source, screen, qualify, present and place providers to satisfy recruitment goals and provider retention.

Safe and affordable, our schedule fee is easy to budget and all advertising is included in total recruitment costs.  We also charge far less than other agencies in it's class, and our completion fee is contingent on successful placement!

Don't go the traditional approach route...The Hire Connection approach works!

9 tips to help you Capture and Connect!

Whether you are trying to sell an idea to your spouse or recruiting your next employee the simple Connect and Capture theory is a step in the right direction.

Here is one of the greatest simple truths in life that if fully understood and implemented will take you to heights you have never been before.

Bonding and Rapport Tips

♦  Life is not about you, it is about the other person. When you connect, your odds of capturing a candidate and selling ideas to staff and your spouse go through the roof.

♦  The position may be great and satisfy the candidate professionally, but if they never integrate fully into your culture they will never truly feel as if they are a part of it.

♦  Outline your vision and mission and make the candidate feel like he or she will be an integral part of the plan.

♦  Out of understandable desperation, warning signs are overlooked or ignored, resulting in non-optimal hires when, with a little more effort, a better fit could have been found.

♦  If you want to get to the top you have to take everyone with you. Most medical recruitment efforts are won or lost before you speak to your first candidate.

♦  Studies have proven over and over it takes 5 positive employees to compensate for one negative force or employee. Start showing the love and be positive at all times.

♦  Take every decision and hold it up to the light of integrity and ask yourself, does it allow you to lay your head down at night and know, without question, it wasn't for personal gain but for the good of the company, staff and client.

♦  The rigors of building a business are grueling, stressing, and trying, and without levity in the workplace you will alienate the most valuable asset you possess — your staff. When your place is no fun, your staff will go find the fun factor elsewhere.

♦  If you spend your entire life helping people up the ladder of life, you will experience all the rewards life has for you.

What do Physicians make in the United States?

So what did a Physician make in the United States in 2013?   Compensation is often top of the mind when a Physician is looking for a new job, and salaries can vary widely depending on the specialty field and the location of the job.  We have gone through a recent study (April 2015) by www.MedScape.com that provides a good level of detail on what physicians are making...

Physician Compensation in 2013

The Medscape.com survey showed that a Physician in Orthopedics made the most money with an average salary of $413,000.  At the low end of the spectrum, a physician specializing in HIV/ID made $176,000 closely followed by a Family Medicine Physician.  Here is the full chart:

http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#2

Notes - As in previous Medscape surveys, orthopedists are the earning leaders, followed by cardiologists. Urologists and gastroenterologists are tied for third place. The lowest earners are physicians in HIV/ID, with primary care physicians and endocrinologists also in the bottom five. As in the past, those who perform procedures have the highest incomes compared with those who manage chronic illnesses. Earnings are for full-time work only. They include salary, bonus, and profit-sharing contributions. For partners, these are earnings after taxes and deductible business expenses but before income tax. They do not include non-patient-related earnings.

Comparison of compensation between Men and Women

This study also looked at any differences between male and female physicians.  Here is the comparison chart:

http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#4

Notes - About half of all graduating physicians are now female, and 61% of female physicians are under 45 vs only 38% of men. Compared with the 2010 Compensation Report, this year's respondents -- both male and female physicians -- report higher incomes. However, men are still making more money.

What areas of the Country have the highest Physician salaries?

Where you practice medicine can have a significant impact on the salary you can expect.  The highest salary geographical area is located in the Great Lakes region and the lowest is in the Mid-Atlantic.  Here is the full chart:

http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2014/public/overview#5

Notes - As in previous years' surveys and in keeping with other national data, the highest earners live in the North Central and Great Lakes regions and the lowest in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The Bureau for Labor Statistics also reports that rural PCPs have higher earnings than those who live in cities. This disparity might be attributed to less competition in smaller communities, which usually have to pay more to attract physicians. To make matters worse for urban physicians, the cost of living is also lower in rural areas, and one report said this translates to 13% more purchasing power in the country vs the city.
