Vast majority of US Doctors are over-extended

80% of US Doctors feel they are over-extended or at Full Capacity

The Hire Connection found a survey of 20,000 physicians conducted by The Physicians Foundation, that shows that the vast majority of doctors are overworked or at their full capacity. This nonprofit organization seeks to advance the work of practicing physicians and facilitate delivery of healthcare to patients.  THC wanted to share some data and information on this startling statistic!

According to the research, titled “2014 Survey of America’s Physicians: Practice Patterns and Perspectives,” 81 percent of physicians describe themselves as either over-extended or at full capacity, while only 19 percent indicate they have time to see more patients.

Forty-four percent of physicians surveyed plan to take steps that would reduce patient access to their services, including cutting back on patients seen, retiring, working part-time, closing their practice to new patients or seeking non-clinical jobs, leading to the potential loss of tens of thousands of full-time-equivalents (FTEs).

As the ranks of Medicare and Medicaid patients increase – in 2011, more than 75 million baby boomers began turning 65 and qualifying for Medicare – and millions of new patients are insured through the Affordable Care Act, patient access to care could pose significant health delivery and policy challenges.

Some Key findings from the report

  • 81% of physicians describe themselves as either overextended or at full capacity, up from 75%in 2012 and 76% in 2008. Only 19% say they have time to see more patients.

  • 44% of physicians plan to take one or more steps that would reduce patient access to their services, such as cutting back on patients seen, retiring, working part-time, closing their practice to new patients, or seeking a non-clinical job, leading to the potential loss of tens of thousands of full-time-equivalents (FTEs)

  • 72% of physicians believe there is a physician shortage, that more physicians should be trained, and the cap on funding for physician graduate medical education be lifted.

  • 24% of physicians either do not see Medicare patients or limit the number of Medicare patients they see.

  • 46% of physicians give the Affordable Care Act a D or F grade, while 25% give it an A or B.

So what?

The predicted doctor shortage for the US is now a reality.  The aging baby boomer population, the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and now the steps that physicians are taking to reduce patient access is troubling.

Hospitals, clinics, behavioral health centers, LTACs, private practice groups, FQHC’s and their decision makers will be finding an increasingly challenging environment to recruit top talent.  In addition, retaining that talent may also become an issue as physicians are feeling overworked.  Add in Obamacare and the implementation of ICD-10, and decision makers need more help that ever finding the physicians they need to stay competitive.

Social Media - The Hire Connection Taking Medical Recruiting to a New Level

Medical Recruiting - Adapt or Die

The Hire Connection is one of the most unique medical recruiting companies in the nation through it's use of technology.  When we recruit for your company, we use cutting edge methods to reach your potential candidates and we have written past blog posts about how we do this.  One area that has caught our attention over the past year has been the use of Social Media to get information out quickly to our potential clients and to those candidates we want to place in opportunities.

THC Social Media Channels:

YouTube - Video is the Content of Choice

Video has become the content of choice and will continue to dominate in 2015.  In August of 2014, Facebook surpassed YouTube in the number of video views via desktop machines.  As of September, 2014, Facebook attracted a BILLION video views per day, a roughly 30 fold increase since July.

The Hire Connection has embraced videos as a great medium to quickly convey to our potential candidates the information they want when looking at one of our opportunities.

Challenge for 2015 - YouTube is losing steam as other social media platforms are hosting videos on their own platforms.  The Hire Connection will continue to push the video medium across these other channels as well as YouTube.

Facebook - Still King, but Getting Seen is Getting Hard

The Hire Connection realized the tremendous popularity of Facebook and its possibilities for increasing reach and connecting with influencers in the recruiting world.  In 2014, Facebook made many changes, to include changing their Edge Rank algorithm in a big way.  The amount of business Facebook posts seen by fans in their newsfeeds took a dramatic drop.

The Hire Connection realized that with the drop in "organic" visibility for posts made on Facebook, paying for ads is now unavoidable.  When we advertise for an opportunity or have other information our fans want to see, we now pay for boosted posts on a regular basis and budget.  This ensures that our clients' searches will be seen by the widest range of people possible.

Challenge for 2015 - In 2015, other Social Media platforms like Twitter may now start with a "Pay to be Seen" model like Facebook.  Ad prices may also rise and our budget will need to rise with it.

Twitter - Keeping our THC Clients and Candidates Informed

The Hire Connection is utilizing Twitter to keep our followers in the know when hot new opportunities hit the street, and to cross promote our blog and other social media posts.  With mobile device use growing every day, THC realizes that Twitter may be the best way to reach these users.  Twitter also changed its platform design in April to better feature visual content, and THC has taken advantage of this by utilizing great visuals to drive home tweets.

Challenge in 2015 - Twitter will continue to grow paid advertising and THC needs to be positioned to take advantage of this.  As paid media becomes the norm, budgeting for paid media will become more important than ever

LinkedIn - The Facebook for Business Professionals

THC is using LinkedIn to reach our potential clients and candidates through both personal and business page followers.  We realized early on that building a following for our business LinkedIn page will help us grow credibility on this important B2B social media platform.  Van Allen, founder and owner of The Hire Connection also has been utilizing his extremely large personal connection network to help his clients with finding the right candidate.

Is LinkedIn important?  We think so, and here is why according to LinkedIn:
As of April, 2013, In the U.S. alone, LinkedIn surpassed 1 million Doctors and Nurses who have joined LinkedIn. They live and work everywhere from Allentown, PA to Wichita Falls, TX, and include thousands of specialists, like:
  • 1,600+ Otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat specialists)
  • 1,400+ Flight Nurses, (nurses with “aeromedical” training)
  • and 1,200+ brain surgeons!
Challenge in 2015 -  LinkedIn will unveil more tools to reach specific professionals in various regions.  THC must understand how best to utilize these tools and budget accordingly to leverage these options.

Google+ - An Important, but Little Understood, Platform

The joke about Google+ is that there are only Google executives on this platform.  This is far from the truth and the number of Google+ users grows everyday.  There are over one BILLION Google account holders, and each of these users have a Google+ account available to them.

One large reason that THC has a Google+ page is that social signals from this social media platform (actually from all of our platforms) have a positive effect and is weighed pretty heavily by the search engine giant.  This is also another platform that our potential clients can evaluate our credibility and learn about the recruiting services we offer.

Challenge in 2015 - The future of Google+ is unclear.  If this does become a social media platform of some importance, THC needs to be ready to leverage new visibility.

THC Blog - The Centerpiece of our Effort

Our Blog is the centerpiece of our Social Media engagement.  We publish twice a week with one blog typically being an opportunity we are featuring.  We cross promote the blog across all of our social media channels to increase readership and reach.  For our non opportunity blogs, we talk about current issues in recruiting, challenges that medical providers are facing, news about The Hire Connection, and other things that catch our interest.

Follow the THC Blog

You can rest assured that when you hire us to find the perfect candidate for your medical facility, The Hire Connection will leverage our experience, our connections, and our social reach to ensure we bring not only the RIGHT person to the table, but the BEST person.

FAQs answered about The Hire Connections unique approach to recruiting!

The Hire Connection represents the next generation in medical recruiting firms. With over 40 years of healthcare recruiting success, THC has revolutionized the way providers are sourced and placed. While many agencies still cling to “old school” sourcing techniques that rely heavily on a single advertising stream, The Hire Connection utilizes a host of cutting-edge resources to give you a competitive advantage and ensure your recruitment goals are realized.

We often are asked some great questions from our perspective clients and we wanted to share them with our answers!  Here are are top frequently asked questions:

Q: Is THC a Contingent or Retained recruiting firm?

Answer:
We think we have blended the best of both worlds, so we like to say we are a “Contained” or “Retingent” firm. In other words, we reduce your financial exposure, but offer all the services your opportunity requires to bring it to a successful conclusion.

Q: How can I be assured you will continue to work our search even after we have paid all of our fees?

Answer:
With our Guaranteed Provider Placement, giving up is not an option. Basically, at THC, we have a different mind-set when it comes to work ethic. While most traditional firms want to fill your search, THC HAS to fill your search.

Q: Do you charge $2.00 plus per piece of mail like other firms?

Answer:
Because of our all-Inclusive approach, there is no cost to you for any marketing.

Q: Can I work with other recruiting firms if I sign an agreement with THC?

Answer:
Absolutely. We would love to handle all of your business, but we understand other companies are vying for your business as well.

Q: I've heard, of all the recruiting firms, THC has the most comprehensive candidate data. How do you acquire that information?

Answer:
At THC, we subscribe to a simple theory: Exposure and repetition are the two key elements of any successful campaign. In addition, we also understand that today’s candidates utilize numerous communication options in lieu of a single snail mail address. So for optimal exposure, THC makes the investment to procure data through other sources which provide us additional contact information, such as, professional and personal emails, and home and cell phone numbers. By increasing our communication options, we increase our chances of making contact, which is our primary goal.

Q: Do you conduct background and credential checks on the candidates?

Answer:
THC conducts a thorough credential check to verify state licensure and board certification. We also run a criminal background check on all candidates.

Q: Do you meet the candidate prior to their site visit?

Answer:
Because our candidates are nation-wide, as a rule, we do not meet them prior to the site visit. We believe we can make better use of our time in the office sourcing additional candidates for your opportunity.

Q: Does your firm create cover letters on candidates?

Answer:
We actually go beyond the traditional cover letter and create extensive 8-10 page mini-biographies on all candidates. We submit these to hirers prior to the candidate’s visit, so that the initial meeting feels more like a second interview.

Q: We have had some success with contingent firms, why should we consider going with a retained firm?

Answer:
Certainly, the no-upfront-costs associated with the contingent approach are attractive. Yet, because of their limited service, and their process of sifting through mountains of CV’s often unrelated to your opportunity, land on your desk. Their sifting process then becomes your sifting process. As long as you are comfortable with visiting with candidates that have very little information about your opportunity and you know very little about the candidate and you are willing to pay someone 25k for that exchange, then we don’t’ try and compete for that business. If you are looking for a full service firm that allows you to focus on your task at hand, then THC would be a great fit.

Say What? A money back guarantee from a recruiting company?

Yes, you heard us right.  We have the industries only money back guarantee.   That means that if we do not find you the right physician, we will give you back your money.  This makes us very different (and better) than other medical recruiting companies out there.  Let us explain further!!

Most reputable recruiting firms are going to have what we call a back-end guarantee.  We have that back-end guarantee as well.  Our back-end guarantee is going to be very similar to the industry standard that simply says, “If the physician we place with your opportunity falls off for any reason within 6 months of the physician’s start date, we will replace the physician at NO cost to you”.  That means if you terminate the candidate or the candidate resigns in the first 6 months of the start date, we will replace the candidate.

We also have what we call a front-end guarantee.  This is our Money Back Guarantee that says, “If we don’t fill your search in 12 months or less we will refund your professional fees back to your facility”.

So we actually protect your investment in the event we don’t fill your search and we protect your investment on the back-end if the candidate falls off.

Our Guarantee

♦ Guaranteed physician placement within 12 months or less. Result-Driven business model.

♦ Maximum service with minimal financial risk.

♦ The industry’s most comprehensive range of services. Services range from opportunity discovery, national sourcing, candidate screening, site visit preparation, contract negotiation and relocation.
Easily budgeted, All-Inclusive, flat monthly billings (professional fees) are guaranteed to result in placement or 100% of your professional fees are refunded back to you.

♦ Multi-search discount pricing. Discounted pricing allows you to lock in on the industry’s lowest recruitment rates, thus easing your upfront investment and allowing you to activate searches over an extended period of time.

♦ Where traditional retained firms will profit greatly whether your search is filled or not, THE HIRE CONNECTION staff is careful to eliminate searches that are impossible to fill or are not competitive with other like opportunities. This ensures your time and recruitment dollars are not wasted on a firm that is simply going through the motions.

♦ Because THE HIRE CONNECTION does not practice hourly billing and professional fees are protected by our guarantee, our recruiters are only compensated when your search is filled. This creates a tremendous amount of incentive for the recruiter to fill your search as quickly as possible and remain committed even when professional billing has ended.

♦ Many times when THE HIRE CONNECTION gets involved in the recruitment process, our clients already have some “hooks” in the water to source physicians. Should our clients fill search on their own or through another source, THE HIRE CONNECTION allows its clients to roll half of the professionals fees incurred into a new search of their choice.

♦ THE HIRE CONNECTION insures candidate will report to work and remain at opportunity for a minimum of six months.
